A Timeline of Church Activities

1993

 

May     

Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz announced creation of the future North American Martyrs Parish.  Father Gabel named as pastor. 

June 15

The parish was canonically erected.

June 19

The first Mass was celebrated at Airport Ramada Inn.

July     

A rectory at 931 West Harvest Drive was purchased.  Four circles formed the core for the new parish’s Altar Society.

September       

Weekend Masses moved to Fredstrom Elementary cafeteria.  A Sunday preschool program was offered in the new location.

November         

Phase I of stewardship awareness campaign (tithing) conducted.

December        

Ten acres east of N.W. 12th Street donated by a friend of the parish.

1994

 

February 5        

Parish Building Committee held first meeting.  The first phase of the project would be a 28,650 sq ft school and gym to be additionally used for weekend Masses.

March  

Phase II of a stewardship awareness campaign (time and talent) conducted.

April     

The Isaac Jogues Knights of Columbus Council #11312 organized.

April     

Scrip program started to fund purchase of future church pews.

June    

Father Thomas Walsh appointed first part-time assistant pastor.

August 

From the Ground Up capital campaign conducted.

September       

Godparent Program initiated.

1995

 

March  

Construction of school began. 

December 24    

Christmas Eve Mass was the first Mass celebrated in the new facility.

1996    

Parish Council was replaced by Pastoral Council.

April 15

First meeting of the Martyrs Parent Teacher Organization.

May 23

Final day of school marking the end of our association with that St Mary’s Parish

June    

Father Joel Panzer appointed first full-time assistant pastor.

June 15

Blessing of the new school facility.

August 

School opened for grades Pre-8, with Sister Patricia Heirigs. O.S.B., as principal.

September       

CCD Program initiated in the parish.

1997

First class of 5th graders to be confirmed.

February 13      

Eucharistic Adoration program began.

June    

Father Jeffrey Eickhoff appointed third assistant pastor.

1998

 

February 6        

First SINE retreat held at our parish.

June    

Father Loras Grell appointed fourth assistant pastor.

1999

 

June    

Father Richard Gyhra appointed fifth assistant pastor.

2000

 

January 1         

Parish marks new millennium with Midnight Mass celebration.

Second Parish Directory.

2001

 

June    

Father Daniel Rayer appointed sixth assistant pastor.

October

Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz granted permission to the parish to build our new church.

2002

 

March  

Building for Our Salvation (BOS) campaign began.

April     

Parish is “debt free” of school loan.

September 29   

Groundbreaking Ceremony for the construction of our new church and classroom addition.

2003

 

August

New classroom addition completed.

October            

Father Joel Panzer appointed second pastor.

2004

 

March 17          

Sneak Peek Weekend allowed parishioners to see construction in progress on new church.

April 1  

Ground broken for the parish hall.

June 16

Fr. Menke became assistant pastor.

August 21/22    

First weekend Masses held in the new church.

September 26   

Dedication of church and parish hall.

End of September           

Construction work completed on new church and parish hall!
