Legion of Mary
Mystical Rose Praesidium
What is the Legion of Mary?
The
Legion of Mary is a world-wide organization of Catholic
(adult and youth) who, with the sanction of the Church
and in union with Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of all
Grace, offer their service for the welfare of souls and
the Church.
The object of the Legion of Mary is
the glory of God through the holiness of its members
developed by prayer and active cooperation in Mary’s and
the Church’s work.
Members offer their services to
their pastor to aid him in performing spiritual works in
the parish to advance the reign of Christ. Mary’s
intentions are the interest of the Sacred Heart. The
Legion aims to bring Mary to the world as the infallible
means of winning the world to Jesus.
The Legion’s goals
are the personal sanctification of its members, the
spread of devotion to Mary through the recitation of the
Rosary, and apostolic work to include visiting the sick,
inviting interested non-Catholics to information
classes, and encouraging fallen-away Catholics to return
to the practice of their faith.
Why should you join the Legion
of Mary?
You can have assurance that you are
putting forth your best effort in developing your own
spiritual life and knowledge, that you are furthering
the cause of Christ and His Blessed Mother. It helps us
imitate Christ.
How do I join?
The Legion has different degrees of
membership-each one very important and vital to the
support of the Legion’s goals.
Active Members commit
to a weekly meeting; two hours of service a week, and
daily recitation of the Catena.
Auxiliary membership
are the praying branch of the Legion who commit to daily
recitation of the Rosary and the prayers contained in
the Legion of Mary prayer card, called the “Tessera.”
