The North American Martyrs GodTeens program is a high school religious program designed to create a positive atmosphere for teens to learn, share and grow in their faith and morals.
We meet regularly in the homes of married volunteers, “Godparents” who are a second set of “parents” to the teens under their guiding hand of God. The strong curriculum deals with hard issues such as: suicide, drugs, music, dating, physical appearance, fair fighting, friendships, vocation and personal prayer. Although these topics may arise, the important thing is to foster an environment built on trust, reliability, authenticity, love and belonging.
The program is important because it fosters a sense of belonging for the teens as well as the leaders. It becomes a second family for students that sometimes don’t have the same experiences in their own home.
With all of the pressure on teens —the GodTeens program seeks to encourage a safe and confidential atmosphere for open discussion and learning. We want to develop strong decision-making skills in our teens to enable them to take charge of their lives in extraordinary ways based upon scripture and an unwavering faith in God.
Our current group of teens met with their class once a week for 1- 1.5 hours. Big high school events occur once a month or so.
